An 'Out of this World' Rustic Barn Wedding on the South Coast!

This past weekend I had the pleasure of Photographing a Wedding for perhaps two of the coolest people I have ever had the fortune to meet. What makes this fantastic couple so special? Let’s list a few things shall we…

  1. They got Married in a Restored Hay Barn!

  2. They had a Star Wars Theme to their Wedding

  3. Millenium Falcon Cufflinks!

  4. R2D2 Shoes!

  5. Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters was their First Dance Song

  6. The last song of the night was Tenacious D’s Tribute

In addition to these six killer reasons, Katie and Josh also happen to be two exceptionally decent people, with an incredibly warm and loving collection of family and friends.

It’s Weddings like theirs that make me so grateful to be a Wedding Photographer.

The wedding venue was located on the outskirts of the Beautiful Cornish Town of Truro, a little outside of my typical working area as a Hampshire & Dorset based Wedding Photographer, but I’m always happy to travel for a wedding. In order to save money on travel I joined the grooms sister and her boyfriend for the journey to the venue. The thought of sharing a four hour car journey with a pair of strangers would normally make me feel a little anxious, but Gee & Tom proved to be the perfect travel companions, and the first of many wonderful people I was to meet over the course of the weekend.

Four hours after setting off on Friday morning we arrived at our destination. Nancarrow Farm. A beautifully unique and idyllic venue. Nancarrow farm is made up of a collection of restored and converted farm buildings. A rustic restored Hay Barn for Wedding Ceremonies, a large converted barn for the Wedding Breakfast & Reception, The Old Mill makes for a wonderful living space for overnighting guests and then Nestled away and adjacent to a Herb Garden is the Bridal Suite. In addition to this there are several rustic yet luxurious en-suite rooms for Wedding Guests to stay in as well as four comfortable furnished Bell Tents.

After a pleasant evening mixing with the wedding guests and a good nights sleep in one of the Furnished Bell tents I awoke and, like everyone else, began my preparations for the days festivities.

The ceremony was due to commence at 1300 giving the Bride, Groom and their respective parties plenty of time to prepare.

The groomsmen readied themselves way ahead of time, and as they got suited and booted I noticed the first of many nods to Katie & Josh’s Star Wars theme.

Giving a Wedding a Pop-Culture theme carries the potential danger of being overdone and appearing ‘tacky’. Katie & Josh had no such problem. Years of thought and planning enabled Katie & Josh to masterfully blend both a Rustic Boho Chic Wedding Style with Hints of Star Wars culminating in a beautiful and classic styled romantic wedding that also displayed the pair’s adorable ‘geeks at heart’ personality.

With the Grooms Party ready and looking absolutely dapper, I made my way over to the Bridal Suite to document the final preparations of the Bride & Bridemaids.

Once Katie and her Bridesmaids finished donning their dresses it was almost time to get the Ceremony underway. But first Katie had to be joined by her father who would walk her down the aisle. This would of course be the first time Dave had seen his daughter in her Wedding dress…

And now swelling with pride at the sight of his daughter, a grown woman ready to be married, Dave led his daughter towards Nancarrow Farm’s Hay Barn for the Wedding Ceremony. As Katie entered the barn she was greeted by the sound of Alan Finlan, friend of both Katie & Josh and the day’s Best Man, singing her down the aisle.

The Ceremony finished, the register was signed and Katie & Josh exited the Barn as Mr & Mrs Smith! Starting their Married life with a showering of confetti by their friends, family and loved ones.

With the ceremony over it was time for Drinks and Photos before Heading into the Reception Hall for Wedding Breakfast and Speeches…

Once the speeches had come to a close Mr & Mrs Smith and all their guests were treated to a Wedding Feast prepared by Nancarrow Farm’s In House Catering Team…

By now the guests had bellies full of food and wine and were ready to begin a night of dancing and partying in celebration of the union between Josh & Katie. So after a quick turn around the room was prepared for the evening’s reception and the DJ began his set. Before long it was time for Katie & Josh’s first dance, this was set to Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters, a song chosen by Katie and Josh years prior to the date. This first dance was the opening of what was an amazing evening of love, laughter and celebration…

Photographing the Wedding of Mr & Mrs Smith will forever be an unforgettable experience for me, it truly was an honour to be a witness to such a beautiful Ceremony, I only hope that my pictures serve as a faithful documenting of the special day and that these images fulfil their purpose as tangible memories that can be looked back on for many years to come. I also wish Josh and Katie a long and happy marriage full of love and laughter in abundance!
